During the Coronavirus pandemic, I have had plenty of time to observe life, my emotional landscape and my spiritual journey. During this time, I have observed many friends from my past who are currently struggling with extreme trauma, despair, and depression. I am not saying that one should not feel sad, isolated, or concerned during this deadly pandemic. However, many of my friends and family are unable to even to respond to my texts or emails inquiring about their well being. This to me is a sign that their past trauma may be triggered by this pandemic, and I sense they may be falling deeper into despair and depression.
Many of these friends and my family members are from my past, prior to 2012 shortly after my Kundalini energy first arose, and I began my emotional healing/spiritual journey. I have many family members who are clinically mentally ill, and unable to connect even when things are “normal.” This pandemic, where their safety and survival are threatened, has pushed many over the edge, and I sense they experience extreme fear, despair and depression.
When I knew or met them many years ago, I was just like them, and therefore, I attracted them. I was struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. Although, I have made much recovery during these past eight years, regrettably, they remain the same. Many who are mentally ill, whether diagnosed or not, may worsen as a result of this pandemic. These individuals must seek mental healthcare, or at a minimum, seek additional emotional support to survive this pandemic.
I also observed the friends who I attracted more recently, particularly those within the past three years, are better able to cope with change and overcome obstacles and difficulties. They have responded to my concerned texts and emails, and are able to engage with others. I believe these individuals will transition successfully during and after this pandemic.
The big difference is that these friends are grateful for what they have, instead of focusing on what they don’t have or can no longer have. They will successfully transition by focusing on what they can control, and use this time to do something productive, such as look for a job, apply for unemployment, prepare for anticipated changes in their business, take on a new project, learn a new skill, or complete a home improvement project.
As for me, I am grateful for this time to rest and take care of myself as my life can be hectic since I care for others in my job. I enjoy down time that I would not otherwise share with my life partner. I spend time doing what I love, such as taking jazz flute lessons, writing music, art therapy, journaling, cooking and baking, cleaning my house (believe it or not), spending time in nature, and preparing to return to my own business once the pandemic quarantine is over.
When this pandemic passes, those who are able to adapt to change will successfully survive. Those who are unable to adapt to this change will struggle with life and survival. I do believe we all need a helping hand in recovering from this pandemic, but this help must come from ourselves to seek the help we need. Others cannot do that for us.
